WhatsApp recently rolled out a new feature called Keep in Chat. The purpose of this feature is to provide users with the ability to avoid a message from disappearing. It allows users to safeguard crucial messages they wish to retain and stop them from vanishing as part of a disappearing timeline. Now a new report has surfaced online revealing that WhatsApp may soon end its dependence on Google Drive when it comes to chat backup.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the website which keeps track of changes in WhatsApp build has reported that the Meta-owned platform is developing a new feature to improve how chats are migrated to other phones: a chat transfer option. The report adds that with the new chat transfer option, users won’t need to back up their chat history to Google Drive in case they want to migrate their account to a new Android device.
How to use the feature
WhatsApp has rolled out the new chat transfer feature for beta testers on Android. Available in Beta version 2.23.9.19, the chat transfer option is available within WhatsApp Settings > Chats and it allows users to migrate their chat history to a new Android device. After selecting the option to transfer the chat users will have to scan the provided QR code and start the process of migrating chat from one Android device to the other.
“This feature eliminates the need to perform a manual backup of the chat history to Google Drive, which can be a time-consuming process, especially if the chat history is large. By scanning the QR code, users can easily transfer their chat history from their old Android device to a new Android device without having to go through the backup and restore process as the migration is automatic,” added the report.
As mentioned above the feature is available to some beta testers and is expected to roll out soon for all the users.
