X is undergoing multiple changes and the Elon Musk-owned company is now changing the way news articles are displayed on the platform. According to Musk, the change is being brought to improve how the timeline looks.
The change was first reported by Fortune and Musk then confirmed it in a post on X. “X is changing how news links show up on the timeline. It will strip out the headline/text so links display only an article’s lead image,” X News Daily said in a post.
Why is X changing the news display style?
As per the report, the change will help reduce the vertical pixel space that articles take. Additionally, Musk wants to change this to cut down on clickbait, the report noted.
“It could also be another incentive for media to publish articles on X, or atleast use the Long post feature to provide more context before the link,” the X News Daily posted.
What’s the change?
According to a separate post, X News Daily said that the new cards for link posts will just display an overlay of the site URL along with the header image. There will not be a full headline and intro.

“This is coming from me directly. Will greatly improve the esthetics,” Musk replied to the post.
Twitter bug
The news comes as X said that it fixed a bug that prevented users from displaying some images and posts prior to December 2014.
“Over the weekend we had a bug that prevented us from displaying images from before 2014. No images or data were lost. We fixed the bug, and the issue will be fully resolved in the coming days,” X’s official support account said in a post.
Despite X fixing the issue, some users claimed that they were still not able to see the images. The company responded by saying that the changes will take a few days.
