The Chinese smartphone maker has acknowledged the widespread online complaints on social media platform X.The company has even confirmed the cause of the issue which was discovered to be an update to its system app called the System UI Plugin.
According to a report by GizmoChina, the update was intended only for devices running HyperOS. However, the company mistakenly rolled out the update to a wider range of MIUI-based phones. This may have caused a compatibility mismatch that triggered the reboot loops upon installation.
What the company has to say
In the X post, Xiaomi confirmed that it has removed the faulty update from online sources to prevent further problems. For users who have already installed the update and are facing the bricking issue, the company has advised them to reach out to its technical support for assistance.
Xiaomi has also strongly discouraged users from attempting to fix the problem themselves, as it could lead to data loss if not properly backed up. Affected users who are facing the bricking issue after installing the latest update need to contact official Xiaomi after-sales channels for support and guidance. The company is soon expected to roll out a fix to permanently resolve the issue.
The company didn’t reveal the exact number of devices that were affected by the update. However, Xiaomi said that it has impacted only a “small number” of devices.
This isn’t the first time Xiaomi has faced issues with its software updates. So to mitigate such risks, users should disable automatic updates on their smartphones. This way, if any glitches slip through an update, they won’t instantly affect their device.
