When Meta launched Threads, it was closely tied to Instagram, the company’s photo and video sharing platform. The integration wasn’t just limited to sharing profiles, followers, settings and even account management. This includes the ability to delete Threads accounts.
The latter part was the most alarming part of the entire Threads and Instagram integration as users didn’t have the option to delete their Threads account without deleting the Instagram account.
Instagram to let users delete Threads profile without Instagram
However, this has changed now. The Verge has reported that Meta is finally rolling out a way for users to delete Threads profiles without being required to delete their Instagram account.
This means, Threads users can now delete or deactivate their profile without deleting their Instagram account. The feature can be found within the settings menu. The company has finally added the “Delete or Deactivate Profile” section, according to Adam Moseri’s, Head of Instagram, Threads post.
The post reads, “Two updates based on feedback from our Threads community
🔔 First: we’re rolling out a way for you to delete your Threads profile separately from your Instagram account. To delete your Threads profile, visit Settings → Account → Delete or Deactivate Profile, then select delete.”
Why this is an important feature
Not having the ability to content an account or online profile is taking away users’ will of whether they want to stick to the service or platform or not. The same applies to the Threads profile as well. For instance, you made a Threads account and later you realised that you did not want to use it and stick to Instagram. But to do that, you’ll also need to delete the Instagram account in the process. This was nothing less than annoying.
With the feature added, users now have more control over their Threads profile, finally.
